When I was 17 years old, I had the opportunity of a life time. I had the chance to travel abroad for the first time as an exchange student to Kure, Japan. Kure is the sister city to my hometown of Bremerton, Washington. This was a six week summer exchange that was scary and exciting. During this adventure of a life time, I fell in love with the country of Japan. Fast forward 13 years my job provided me the opportunity to move to Japan. In January 2020, we started a new adventure living in the Kanagawa Prefecture of Japan. We live in Zushi; an amazing little town about 30 minutes from work.
There has been some adjusting moving to a foreign country compared to our lives in the United States. Learning to drive on the wrong side of the road, which is actually the right (literally). Learning to speak the language which is off to a steady start. Working in a crazy world right now with a global pandemic (COVID-19) and following stay at home orders other than getting essentials. We don’t have our family close to use to lean on in hard times but it is teaching us to be stronger and showing us the strengths of our relationship.
Even with all the crazy adjustments and learning curves, this journey is off to an amazing start. I have been lucky enough to travel to this area the last few years for work and know different parts of the area fairly well. I am so excited to get to share this place that has been a second home to me for years with my amazing husband, Kenney. Kenney wasn’t 100% sure if he was going to like living abroad as he had never been here or out of the country before. He is quickly growing the same love for this wonderful place that I have. He is getting to see another side of me and now has the ability to understand certain quirks about me, that just didn’t make sense in the USA. We will be here for several years and I look forward to sharing our adventures with you all. Our adventures of exploring Japan, making sustainable choices in our house and health, and my work with the clean beauty movement.

Rachel I so enjoyed Reading your story. Love and Miss you both
